it could be ';by exam'; such as AP/CLEP/DANTES in which case it gets credit but no grade.





some colleges use it as the failing mark in a course that grades as satisfactory/unsatisfactory as opposed to using S and U. some still use ABCDE instead of ABCDF so the E would be 'failing'

An ';e'; on your transcript means you have taken the course more than one time and did not get credit for it.
